PRESENCE: Embodied Awareness through Stillness and Somatic Movement

Event description

A five-week exploration of embodied awareness through stillness and somatic movement

In this five-week series, we explore the cultivation of presence in stillness and movement. Through the integration of Continuum Movement and mindfulness meditation practices, we explore: How does stillness support fluid movement? How does fluid movement help us settle into stillness?

Continuum invites us into the body’s subtle intelligence through breath, sound, and intuitive movement. Mindfulness helps us relate to inner experience—thoughts, emotions, and sensations—with clarity and compassion. We will explore how integrating these practices supports the cultivation of presence that is rooted and adaptable, steady and responsive.

Each session offers guided practices that invite you to attune more deeply to sensation, develop a more fluid relationship with thoughts and emotions, and connect with the body’s intelligence. For meditators, this series offers an intuitive entry into somatic movement. For movers, it offers practices to skillfully meet the mind as it arises during movement. All levels of experience are welcome!

Logistics

5 classes, 2 hours per session. Each session includes a guided meditation and Continuum Movement practice, time for reflection, and space to connect with others.

Zoom recordings of all sessions will be made available to all registered participants in the days following each session.

Class Themes

Week 1: Intro to Continuum Movement & Mindfulness Meditation
Week 2: Sensation as Anchor and Lantern
Week 3: Feeling Tone as Guide
Week 4: Waves of Thoughts & Emotions
Week 5: The Radiance of Open Attention

About the Practices

Continuum Movement combines breath, sound, and intuitive movement to reawaken the body’s fluid, responsive nature. It centers pleasure, curiosity, and internal guidance—offering a gentle, open-ended way to move the body freely, outside of external direction and pressure.

Mindfulness Meditation is rooted in the Theravāda/Insight Buddhist tradition and cultivates awareness of the body, emotions, and mind through mindfulness. It supports the cultivation of kindness, compassion, and clear seeing by helping us relate more wisely to the conditions of our lives.

The Intuitive Body: An Introduction to Continuum (In-Person, NYC)

Event description

An in-person, three-hour introductory workshop exploring the core philosophy and practices of Continuum Movement

Continuum Movement (CM) is a somatic practice that combines breath, vocalization (sounding), and intuitive movement to tap into the fluid nature of the body. The demands of modern life can disrupt one's connection to the body’s intelligence—particularly its capacity for fluidity, responsiveness, and radical presence. Continuum offers gentle explorations that restore and nurture this relationship by centering pleasure, curiosity, and internal guidance through intuitive movement.

In this introductory three-hour workshop, we will explore the core practices and philosophy of Continuum through embodied conversation and movement. After grounding in the essential elements of Continuum—breath, sound, sensation, movement, and innovation—the workshop will include time for two movement explorations (or what we call “dives” in Continuum), as well as time for questions, sharing, and connection with other participants.

Continuum may be of particular interest to people who want to move their bodies in community without pressure or expectation about how the movement “looks.” In Continuum, we generally practice with closed eyes/softened gaze, lying on the floor, and emphasize trust, agency, and empowerment in movement. Open to folks of all levels of movement experience!

Please note the workshop occurs twice in Fall 2025 - October 4 & November 22.

Continuum of Sovereignty: A Somatic Inquiry of Individual and Collective Expression
May

to Jul 2

Continuum of Sovereignty: A Somatic Inquiry of Individual and Collective Expression

In this Continuum Movement® series, we inquire into sovereignty through a somatic and energetic lens – not as separation, but as coherence and belonging.

Through movement, we will explore boundaries, speaking truth to power, and expressing agency without collapsing into disconnection. Together we’ll trace how systems, ancestral lineages, and cultural narratives shape the body’s relationship to autonomy, voice, safety, and expression. We'll engage with sovereignty in the relational field—within family, partnerships, community, and peer dynamics—and examine how fluid movement supports this inquiry. Grounding these explorations in biology, we’ll attune to inner landscapes shaped by mitochondria, fascia, exclusion zone water, and the body’s capacity for coherence. This series is an invitation into open systems: where sovereignty is not isolation, but interconnection in motion.

Structure & Format

5 classes, 2 hours per session. Each session will include guided Continuum explorations, dialogue, somatic reflection, and integrative teaching.

Continuum Movement® (CM) is a somatic practice that combines breath, vocalization (sounding), and intuitive movement to tap into the fluid nature of the body. Through gentle explorations, CM practices teach us to move the body intuitively by listening to the language of sensation, while giving full permission to be guided by pleasure and ease.

Zoom recordings of all sessions will be made available to all registered participants in the days following each session.

please

In healing time, everything is already whole. In human time, nothing feels further from the truth. How do the parts of ourselves who know the truth of how things are care for the parts who seem to have no idea? Hard on the nervous system at times, please dwells in the weeds of mind and the high-tone illusion of control only to break into a spaciousness that was already here—and back again. please is femme and dark, a bit ridiculous and full of unconventional joy, deadly serious like a cosmic joke. And who knew that integrating seemingly disparate parts of ourselves included a rather unexpected Bjork dance party?

The Fluid Body: Dynamic Pathways in Continuum Movement®

The Fluid Body: Dynamic Pathways in Continuum Movement®

Description

Continuum Movement® (CM) is a somatic practice that combines breath, vocalization (sounding), and intuitive movement to tap into the fluid nature of the body. Modern life—with its impossible work expectations, oppressive structures, and unlivable environments—can disconnect the body from its inherently fluid, lively, and creative state. Through gentle explorations, CM practices teach us to move the body intuitively by listening to the language of sensation, while giving full permission to be guided by pleasure and ease. Unlike other movement modalities that focus on physical form and external technique, Continuum teaches us to slow down and trust the body—regardless of how the movement appears on the outside. Continuum may be of particular interest to people who want to move their bodies in community without pressure or expectation about how the movement “looks.” In Continuum, we generally practice with eyes closed, lying on the floor, and emphasize trust, agency, and empowerment in movement.

In this workshop series, we will explore five dynamic pathways in Continuum – ground, space, gravity, waves, and spirals. Each week, we will explore how attention to each pathway supports fluidity in the body.

Class Schedule

  • Week 1, Oct 13, Ground: We explore what supports the body, playing with what happens when we soften into ground and actively resist it.

  • Week 2, Oct 27, Space: We see what happens when we shift our relationship to space – seeing it as a potent, alive resource, and anything but empty.

  • Week 3, Nov 10, Gravity: We explore gravity as a source of belonging – and as a force that buoys rather than weighs down.

  • Week 4, Nov 24, Waves: Activating the first three pathways, we play with waves as a teacher of what it means to both allow and respond.

  •  Week 5, Dec 8, Spirals: We explore spirals as a universal bio-motif and movement pathway that enables versatility, innovation, and possibility in the body.

Workshop Cost

$125

The Biocosmic Body: A Continuum Movement Workshop Series

to Apr 27

The Biocosmic Body: A Continuum Movement Workshop Series

Continuum Movement sees the body in an expansive light – at once an expression of the biological, cultural, and inter-dependent dimensions of being human. Across four workshops, we will explore how Continuum practices – which use breath, body-generated sound, self-guided intuitive moment, and granular attention to sensation and pleasure – can deepen our awareness of these different dimensions of inhabiting a body. Through sounding, movement in community, and embodied conversation, we cultivate thoughtful ways of holding these different – and often conflicting – aspects of bodily experience together. Open to folks of all levels of movement experience!

The workshop series will be structured around what founder Emilie Conrad Da’oud called “the Three Anatomies.” Each week, our practice will be structured around a series of inquiries to be explored through breath, sound, and movement.

Somatic Practices for Relating to the Inner Critic

Somatic Practices for Relating to the Inner Critic

Creativity is often hampered by the voice of an inner critic – one that tells us we’re not good enough, that we don’t know what we’re doing, or that we’re not as talented as others. In this workshop, we will combine the somatic practices of Continuum Movement and Insight meditation to deepen our understanding of, and relationship to, this inner critic. Rather than silencing or repressing the inner critic, we explore kind, present, and embodied ways of working with this inner voice to deepen our relationship with ourselves – and to show up in uncompromising, fierce, and compassionate ways in our creative endeavors.
